German car giant Volkswagen is launching the UK's first compact panel van to be powered by compressed natural gas (CNG).
The Caddy EcoFuel and Caddy Maxi EcoFuel offer a practical, green choice for environmentally-conscious van operators.
The CNG-powered Caddy has been on sale in Europe since 2006, delivering lower, cleaner emission and reduced fuel costs.
The model will be of particular interest to firms hit by the current downturn. Many have been forced to look at a number of strategies to cut down costs, including finding the cheapest van insurance and making their fleet as fuel efficient as possible.
Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles said the engine can operate on biomethane - a sustainable fuel that is now becoming commercially available from renewable sources - or CNG, which is the same gas as used for heating and cooking at home.
And those who forget to top up their gas will be able to rely on its 13-litre petrol tank, which is automatically engaged should the gas supply run out.
